More Kitten Stuff

I wasn't going to write any more about the kittens for a while, but just had to talk about the nice gift that the kitties got in the mail yesterday.
Lucy is checking out the catnip toy that coloradocatniptoys sent for the babies.
You can check out other cute catnip toys at http://coloradocatniptoys.etsy.com
These are some pretty powerful little toys, our big tabby Pepper could smell the catnip when I brought the mail into the house and practically ripped open the envelope herself!
After she got thouroughly stoned on the catnip, she let little Lucy have a look.

Fat and Sassy

No, not my husband, I'm talking about the baby kitties. Whether we keep them or not, we figured out some names for them. Lily is the white one, Buddy is the orange one, and Lucy is the grey and orange one. They've been exploring outside the confines of the bathroom a little bit, and the little girls next door paid them a visit yesterday. Our other three cats are a little confused and irritated by these little ones, but I think they will eventually learn to tolerate them.
They go back to the vet tomorrow to get checked, that is if the vet is back from the trip to Bermuda that our last bill helped pay for!

Sleepy Babies

The three little kittens had just been fed, given their meds, and were being cuddled before bed. These are the rescued kittens that were living under a woodpile in our back yard in the 100 degree Bakersfield heat. They had respiratory infections, eye infections, and were dehydrated and constipated. After a trip to the vet for meds, and another trip for enemas they seem to be doing just fine. They are learning to use the litter box, love their bottles, and are getting a little more steady on their feet. We took them with us to a Father's Day barbecue since we couldn't leave them home all day, and they were the center of attention with all the kids there. All the kids wanted to hold them until they started pooping on them.
My husband says after all the money we have spent on them, we're keeping all three, but that is still debatable. I know I want to keep at least one of them, but they're all so cute it'll be really hard to choose just one.

Little Bitty Kitty

This little orange guy is one of the stray kittens we are feeding. The other two have goopy eyes and this one sneezes, so they're all going to the vet tomorrow to get checked out. They're starting to get the hang of the bottle, and I've gotten them peeing. You have to wipe their bottoms with a warm wet cotton ball as if the mama was licking them to get them to pee. No poop yet, hope they're not constipated.
They're getting a little adventurous and are checking out the confines of the bathroom. It's funny to watch them wobble around and bump into each other.

Babies in the Bathroom

Once again, we have stray kittens in the bathroom. Each year we have a new crop of neighborhood strays having kittens. In fact, two of our cats, Bear and Little Bit were from two of these litters. We have had a ginger colored cat hanging around looking for food lately. Our neighbor down the street had been feeding her and noticed she was gone for a few days and asked us to check our yard for the kittens. The mama cat has been in our backyard a lot waiting for a handout, and, sure enough, she had 3 kittens hidden away. We put them in a box outside and she came and took one of them away, so I brought the other two in and went and got formula and kitten bottles. They look like they are maybe 3 weeks old-a ginger one, grey one, and a white one that the mama took. The mama cat is feral so we unfortunately need to take her to the pound. We'll get these kittens fattened up and take them to the spca for adoption or just give them away outside wal-mart.
The last time we bottle fed kittens we had four of them and found them all homes even though I wanted to keep them. They were a siamese mix and really pretty. My favorite was a little guy I called Butterball-he was the fattest one and would growl if the others got too close to his food. I'm sure I'll want to keep one of these, but with 3 housecats already, it's getting a little crowded around here.

Pepper

This is Pepper, the cranky tabby. She loves to 'hide' inside her newspaper tent. She thinks nobody can see her although her tail usually gives her away. When she is hiding if you get near her she growls and hisses at you and may even swipe at you if you're not careful. When she gets bored of hiding, she likes to shred the paper.

Either that or she scans the ads to see if there are some other nicer humans looking for a cat to spoil. A home that she doesn't have to share with two other cats. A home where the tuna is always fresh and she has her own kitty condo. A home where she never has to go to the vet or use a not so clean kitty box. A home with fresh catnip and a new fuzzy mouse every day. Sometimes I think she is plotting ways to get rid of us, but I think she realizes that she can't open the cat food by herself, so she tolerates us.

Where Do I Find Cool Stuff?

crimsoncat asks where do I find some of the things that I use in my art?
Well, without divulging all of my secrets, I'll have to say anywhere and everywhere.
Dollar stores, party supply stores, ebay, antique stores, even etsy! We have lots of supplies available on etsy and I love supporting my fellow etsyers.
We do have a few really cool antique stores here in Bakersfield. Yes, I know, this is hicksville, but this is a major city in central CA and we do have pretty much everything here that other large cities have, even our own international airport!
The downtown is somewhat run down like most large cities that have so much surrounding land to spread out in. But, downtown is where the antique stores are, in between the pawn shops and the adult bookstores. Oh, and we just got our third strip club here in town! Now, that's something to write home about!
My favorite antique store is on 19th Street-The Five and Dime Antique Mall. For those of you nostalgic for the old Woolworth's stores, this mall is in the actual Woolworth building, all three stories of it. The old luncheonette has been saved and still serves hot fudge sundaes. This is one of those malls that have the little divided booths for rent for all the antique dealers. So much fun to browse and find that little treasure. Lots of junk in with the treasures, of course, but I've never come out of there empty-handed. My last treasure was a huge old book of sheet music for $6.00 that I use in my collage.
And it's so handy, after your antiquing trip you can hit the porn store to check out the latest offerings there! It's right down the street!

what am I doing starting a blog?

I've thought about starting a blog for a while, but wondered if I was just too lazy to keep up with it. While reading a post on the etsy.com forums about blogs, I got to thinking a little more about it. I commented in the forum that I might be too lazy to keep up with a blog since I am so lazy that I had to go commando the other day because I hadn't done the laundry yet and had no clean underwear. I was also too lazy to go 1/2 mile down the street to Target to buy some more underwear. Of course, I had no underwear to put on to go to Target in the first place.

So, I finally decided to do the laundry and start a blog and see what happens.

And, yes, I am wearing clean underwear today.

But what to write about?

Laundry? Why do I procrastinate on getting those dirty clothes into the washer? It's not that hard-throw them in, add some soap, and twist the dial. Oh, but then I actually have to take the clean wet clothes out and throw them in the dryer! And then I have to FOLD those clothes. Aaargghh! Too much work! Must be why there is a basket of clean clothes on the kitchen floor and a dryer still full of more clean clothes. Well. at least I remembered to turn on the dryer. Okay, I will go fold those clothes now. Of course they will stay stacked on the bed until I want to get in it tonight and finally have to put them away.
