Happy New Year?

Hopefully it will be. If we could just find our missing cat. Dusty has still not turned up and Keith is devastated because he promised his mother that he would take care of them. I asked the twit lesbian next door if her dogs had gotten the cat but she was probably the wrong one to ask because while she brings home all of these animals she never takes care of them and never goes in the back yard. She leaves the dog feeding up to her girlfriend who goes out there and screams and yells at the dogs who are just trying to get a little human contact. And apparently nobody ever cleans up the dog shit because it always stinks back there. Anyway, she didn't seem to have any knowledge of anything. Their dogs could bark all night long and they never go out to see what's up. I think they just put in some ear plugs and go back to sleep.

So, I printed up some missing cat flyers for Keith to put around the neighborhood. He just talked to James who said that Dusty had run off a few times but always came back when he got hungry enough so there is still some hope. Poor Genie is confused and kind of wanders around looking for Dusty. She doesn't want to go into their shed house so we put a basket on the back porch for her to sleep in since she seems to want to be near the back sliding door where she can see us.

Other than that, kind of a quiet New Year's Eve for us. Keith fell asleep at about 9 and I read until I got too sleepy to read anymore and went to bed about 10:30. No wild parties for us! We are too old and too tired.

On Friday night we went to the Holiday Lights at Calm, CALM standing for California Living Museum, the little zoo where they keep native to California animals and birds. Each year they have a huge light display, with animated light sculptures, hot chocolate, and train and carousel rides. We did get to ride the train this year, which just kind of goes around in a big circle but with light displays around the track. The line was long but went quickly because they had two trains running. I was kind of surprised at how busy it was being after Christmas and all but maybe everybody else waited until after thinking it wouldn't be as crowded just like us.

And that is about it, another year over with and another starting. No big resolutions for us because we never keep them anyway, so...

Standing Around Naked Eating Popcorn

That's what Keith was doing the other night after his shower. Wouldn't Standing Around Naked Eating Popcorn make a great name for a band?

This morning there was a toy mouse in the toilet. Now, we subscribe to the 'if it's yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown, flush it down' school of thinking when it comes to toilets, so at first I think that Keith has forgotten to flush the brown down and I'm all set to flush when I realize it's not brown but a gray toy mouse. That I had to fish out of the mellowing toilet. GAG. But at least I didn't flush the mouse down which probably would have resulted in a backed up toilet, and when you only have one toilet in your house you don't want that to happen.

Like our neighbor who flushed down his brown and then went away for the weekend, only to come home and find his bathroom and bedroom completely flooded with nasty water because the toilet had been overflowing for two days. They had to replace all the tile and all the carpet. Ugh.

So tonight is New Year's Eve in case you didn't remember. New Year's Eve has never been a big deal for me, who wants to start out your new year with a killer hangover anyway? We'll probably be snoozing by about 11 pm, so for those of you who aren't old and can stay up that late, Happy New Year.

I've noticed that a lot of the more popular bloggers do a year in review kind of thing this time of year and I'm sorry, but BORING! My year in review? Um, cleaning cat boxes?

I'm not making any resolutions this year other than continuing to eat boring boring boring low carb food. I almost couldn't finish my breakfast today, cottage cheese, a turkey burger patty, and a low carb yogurt. It was kind of gag inducing.

Maybe I will stand around naked eating popcorn more often, though.

Our Oh So Exciting New Year's Eve

We had a great time last night!!

Ha ha.

We went to Spencer's for dinner because it was tortilla soup night, and then Keith doesn't even order the soup but had salad instead.

Then we came home and Keith fell asleep on the couch. There was nothing on TV (no kidding) so I was re-reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, one of my all time favorite books. Then he woke up around 9 and started flipping channels. Still nothing on TV (no kidding), so he flipped and flipped (annoying) and found an infomercial for Time Life Pop Sounds of the 60's cd's which was actually kind of fun to watch for a while because they were showing all the original clips of these geeky 60's singers singing their one hit wonders. I remembered all the songs but had completely forgotten who did them. Then they would go back to the 'hosts' of the 'show', some woman I'd never heard of and then BOBBY GOLDSBORO! A very plastic surgeried looking Bobby Goldsboro with jet black hair. The guy must be about 90!

Then some more channel flipping, stopping at the Times Square show with that very boring guy who has a late night show or whatever it is that he does. He was so boring that I can't even remember his name and I'm wondering how in the world he got his own show because he is completely devoid of any personality. I'd much rather watch the American Idol guy, at least he has some facial expressions.

Then back to the informercial station only now they were advertising the Seventies Soul sounds, which was even more fun to watch, what with all the groups where the background singers had their fancy suits on and did their little dance moves in unison. I remembered all of those songs, too, and was really tempted to order this set.

Then more channel flipping, and back to the infomercial, and now they were on to the 80's Rock Ballads.

Then more channel flipping, back to the informercial, and now it was Classic Country and Western with twangy songs from the 50's.

Then we watched the ball drop, very anticlimactic as far as I'm concerned, and then it was 2010. Whoopee. Wow.

Speaking of infomercials, Keith was flipping channels the other day (annoying) and came across one for a mini grill thing that you could cook burgers, waffles, omelettes, blah blah blah on, and I thought the woman running the show looked familiar, and then realized it was Vicky Lawrence! Whoa, guess her career didn't go all that far after the Carol Burnett show if she now has to sell mini grills on infomercials. Either that or she is hoping to get incredibly rich like George Foreman did with his grill. Which, by the way, is the best little kitchen thing we ever bought. The George grill, not the Vicky grill.

Anyway, that was our exciting New Year's Eve. When you get old, partying just isn't that appealing anymore, and sitting on the couch in my pajamas watching infomercials worked for me. And you don't wake up with a hangover.

The Year in Review

I see lots of bloggers doing a recap of all the exciting things that happened during the past year and thought maybe I should do a review, too.

Meh.

I've got nothing.

But, in other news, I do think the economy is starting to improve because yesterday we got, for the first time in a very long time, a credit card offer in the mail. We used to get at least 3 or 4 a week back in the good old free flowing credit days but ever since the big crash of '08, nothing. So, to me that is a good sign that the old mailbox will start filling up with junk mail credit card offers once again. People can now go back to the olden days of credit cards filling up their wallets, shopping for stuff they really can't afford, but, hey, I'VE GOT CREDIT CARDS! Yay!

And, what are our plans for New Year's Eve?

Meh.

I've got nothing.

And, speaking of cats, here is the infamous Bandit getting a snack. He is the only one out of our three tiny ferals that will let us pet him. He's the crafty one, he knows that if he runs across the street and rolls on his back for his belly to be petted that his tricks will EARN HIM FOOD! The big stray in the picture is the one we've been feeding for a while, we call him Sal. He doesn't do tricks or let us pet him, he just meows for his food, but he is willing to share with the little ones.

We think Sal is the kindly Uncle.
