Lunch at The Flame Broiler

Yesterday was payday, and since we were waiting for payday there was, of course, not much in the house to fix lunch with. Keith had a long night at work, not getting home until 9:30 or so, and right after he got home he went over to the auto parts store because the car had been hard to start and he thought the battery might be going dead. Which as it turn out, most definitely was. He also needed to get a belt for something on the car and it was a good thing that it was payday because between the belt and the battery, there went $175.00. The bearings around the air conditioner something or other are also going out and if they go out the whole car does too, don't ask me why, he tried to explain it to me but I still don't know what he was talking about. Just that the bearings are making a loud racket when you drive, so next payday that will need to get fixed which will be about $500.00. However, if he can keep going on this job, his paychecks are way better than they used to be.

But, he is still having a very hard time and may not make it through his probationary period. His memory is (and always has been) so bad and he just can't seem to keep what he is supposed to be doing in his head.

Anyway, long story short, nothing for lunch in the house so we decided to go get some and I remembered the new The Flame Broiler that opened up a few months ago not too far from the house. We had to go put some gas in the car anyway and it's conveniently located down the street from the gas station that we go to, so...lunch it is.

I was pleasantly surprised, the menu is just chicken and beef, rice, vegetables if you want, and it either comes in a bowl or on a plate with cabbage salad. We got the plates, me white meat chicken, which you have to ask for and pay extra for or you'll automatically get (gag) dark meat chicken. Gag again. Keith got the beef. The food is brought to your table and it looked really good right from the start, very fresh looking and lots of it. However, if you think your plate will be as big as the pictures of the plates in the windows and on the walls THINK AGAIN! Each picture has a disclaimer that says NOT ACTUAL SIZE because someone must have complained when they got their plate and it wasn't two feet across like the giant sized plate in the pictures.

And, what's really surprising is that our plates looked exactly like the pictures, except for the not actual size part and they weren't giant plates, but the food looked every bit as good as pictured, and we all know how often that happens in a fast food place.

And, it was good! They have sauce to put on your food, hot sauce which I didn't try, and then magic sauce, which I did try and is basically a sweet teriyaki type sauce and very tasty. The lunch including drinks cost us $20.60, not cheap cheap but since it wasn't a soggy hamburger (that always looks nothing like the pictures on the menu board) and halfway healthy and even came with a veg and a fruit, still a good value for the money.

I'm ready to go back again.
