Stinky Cat Boxes

When you have five cats in your house you go through a lot of cat litter. And food and stuff, but that's a different story. We have so many cats doing their duty (so to speak) so very many times a day that instead of the normal sized cat boxes that you can get at the pet stores, we have two large cement mixing pans that we got at the home improvement store for our cat boxes. They are about 1 1/2 x 2 feet and hold a lot of cat litter. Like 3 bags of cat litter in each one. Three bags times $7.98 a bag times 2 boxes equals a lot of money to fill up those cat boxes with something that will eventually be thrown away.

We use The World's Best Cat Litter after trying out all the other brands with their magic odor control crystals and all that crap, and the reason they make cat litter smell like air freshener is not for the cats but for their humans. Because cats don't like air freshener smell and it's really not good for them to breathe in air freshener smell dust from the cat litter. The World's Best Cat Litter does not have air freshener smell, in fact smells like nothing much at all because it is made out of corn. However, I just went onto their website and they do make a lavender scented litter for cat owners that need that air freshener smell in their cat litter. Apparently no stores in this area carry because I've never seen it.

It works really well. For a few weeks anyway. I clean the boxes twice a day and we don't have to go around the house with clothespins on our noses because of cat box smell or constantly spray air freshener like in that commercial on TV. Then all of a sudden you notice that your house stinks and it's time to dump the well used cat litter in the trash, wash out the boxes with some bleach and water, and start all over again with completely fresh litter.

And it's been time to do that for the past week. However we are waiting for tomorrow's payday so we can go buy the fresh bags of litter and get those boxes cleaned out. Rather impatiently waiting because the smell is starting to get to me. I don't have any clothespins to put on my nose but have been frantically spraying air freshener. Which the cats don't like because it makes that hissing noise when you spray air freshener and reminds them of being sprayed with the water bottle when they do bad things.

I wish this post was sponsored by The Worlds Best Cat Litter because then maybe I'd get some free cat litter, but it's not. I do like the litter, though, and will continue to use it despite not getting free stuff.

try sprinkling some baking soda in there, might help for a short term fix...
