The Phantom Toothbrush

In my battle against gum disease, I've been using an electric toothbrush twice a day for a few years now. It's one of the cheaper electric toothbrushes because my first electric battery operated toothbrush cost about $80.00 and then just the refill brushes another $25.00 or so a package. Way too expensive. So, I got a much cheaper one that sits on a little recharger and doesn't need batteries and works just as well at $15.00 than the $80.00 one. Except that it just went all whacko the other day.

I'm brushing away, waiting for the little pulse signal that my 2 minutes of brushing are up and it just stops all by itself. No pulsing, no warning, just an abrupt stop. Well, okay, guess I'm done. So, it's laying on the side of the sink to dry off and I'm sitting at the computer and I hear what sounds like someone's weed whacker outside, but it's not a weed whacker that I'm hearing. It's my toothbrush. Laying on the sink and brushing away.

I turn it off again and while I'm holding it it keeps turning itself back on, over and over again, turn it off, it turns back on, turn it off, it turns back on. There are no batteries to remove so I'm perplexed as to what to do. Throw it away and have a toothbrush brushing away inside the trash can? Let it brush itself out until the charge is used up?

Keith comes home and I'm telling him about the whacked out toothbrush and he's telling me that I just didn't turn it off right. So he lays down for a nap and pretty soon gets woken up by the toothbrush brushing away.

Later in the evening he goes over to visit the neighbor and the toothbrush is whacking out again and I'm really tired of listening to it so I throw it out on the front porch where he is greeted by a brushing toothbrush when he comes back home. He rips the brush head off of it and throws the whole mess in the trash can. Where it is probably still attempting to brush away.

So, today a new toothbrush is on the to-do list.

Funny! I use a battery toothbrush from the drugstore which takes new AA batteries, and also new brushes, and costs less than $20. Lots cheaper and just as good as the expensive ones......
