A Lot is NOT One Word

Hello, people, the word(s) a lot, meaning a great many or a whole bunch or a sh*tload of something is not one word, but TWO!! There is no such word as ALOT.

I don't normally get too annoyed at spelling errors since while I'm an exceptional speller (thx spellcheck) for the most part I still get confused over capitol and capital and the only reason I know the difference between principle and principal is that the latter is your pal unless of course you are a bad kid and always get sent to the princiPAL's office. And the whole i before e except if it's a Tuesday or whatever has always confused me. Let's face it, English is a confusing language and soon we'll just give up on trying to learn how to spell and everyone will just spell in text form, right? Except then I'll have to learn spelling all over again since I don't do text.

Keith is an atrocious speller but I like him anyway and he is so very smart in other areas that I let the whole spelling thing slide. I know what he means when he writes something and some of his creative spelling is pretty funny. But even my bad speller knows that a lot is not one word.

I see so many otherwise intelligent well worded people posting in the etsy forums and it's all going along so well and they are making very good points or participating in a very good discussion and I'm really enjoying reading what they have to say until I get to the non word alot. It happens a lot.

Consider this your public service announcement for the day.

The ones who don't know the difference between it's and its drive me batty...or their and they're. I could go on. It's almost like showing contempt for your readers if you can't even be bothered to do a quick spell check. I hate that the English language is being dumbed down like this. Yet another sign of civilization's decay, I suppose.
