And Now

Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Keith is on his way to work this morning! Yay! He went and did his interview and went for his physical and was told he could start on Monday, and then yesterday gets a call from Bob to come in today to get all the training videos and all that stuff done so he could get on to the real work. Apparently revenues went way way down after he left. Makes sense since he was the only one doing any real revenue producing work, so...

After a little catching up since we haven't had his paycheck the last few weeks, we'll get back to normal here real soon.

He's still feeling pretty depressed about the whole situation, though, feeling like a huge failure for not being able to hang with the railroad job but time will pass and he'll get back into the routine and hopefully will start feeling better about life in general here soon.

We were bored on Tuesday and feeling kind of antsy what with waiting for phone calls and uncertainty about his job, so we got in the car for a ride up through the mountains to Tehachapi, just wanting to get out of the house for a few hours. Our first stop was at Murray Farms, the fruit stand slash petting zoo slash hay rides slash pick your own fruit place. We always stop there because they have nice rest rooms. Apparently they have some sort of agreement with tour buses to stop there also, because the cashier was completely out of change after two tour buses had just bought the place out and as we were leaving another two buses pulled up and a parade of tourists came walking up the path to the store. They were speaking what sounded like German, so we got to wondering where they had been and where they were headed. Certainly not to Bakersfield, but maybe they were on their way to Yosemite. Or Hollywood.

So, after our pee stop and the purchase of a cup of coffee and a bag of expensive but delicious chocolate covered almonds, on up the road. It really is a beautiful drive up through the mountains, everything was still green from the rains last month. We had thought about having lunch in Tehachapi but decided to eat at home and then just stop for a treat or coffee or something. We didn't realize that Tehachapi rolls up its sidewalks on Mondays and Tuesdays, though. Most of the little shops on the main street were closed and so was the public bathroom in the little park there. I needed to go to the bathroom again after my coffee from Murray Farms, so we went down to The Apple Shed and used their bathroom and then sat down for some more coffee and got a piece of apple pie for Keith and a cinnamon roll for me. Our dessert ended up being our dinner because we never did get hungry again after we got home.

I forget how very windy Tehachapi can be, but it makes sense since the town is SURROUNDED BY WINDMILLS! Duh. It was also kind of hot up there so by the time we got home we were both sweaty and tired.

Speaking of hot, we had to turn on the air conditioner last night for the first time this year. It got up to 97 yesterday and it was 86 here in the house. It's supposed to get hot again today and then cool off some for the weekend.

YAY for him being back to work. Tell him I understand how he feels... going from my nice corner office with a giant window and pretty decent salary and all my perks to working in a filthy boatyard... but my quality of life is better here. And THAT is what is important. His quality of life will be better if he is home with you every night. Simple as that. He did NOT fail, he made a good choice. Hugs to my brother-in-law ♥
