Brave Birds

We have a pair of bluejays or bluebirds or whatever they are that make the rounds of the neighborhood every day, eating bugs and seeds and whatever else they find. They are big loud screeching kinds of birds and are very brave when it comes to the neighborhood outdoor cats. I've seen cats sitting on the grass with these birds hopping just a few feet away, kind of taunting the cats like 'catch me if you can!'. The cats are always looking over their shoulders and kind of slinking around when the birds are out.

Yesterday I see the calico from next door walking through our yard with the bird right behind it, then along comes the stray siamese right behind the bird. The bird flies up into the tree at just the right moment and thumbs his nose or beak or whatever at both cats. Then later the siamese is sitting in the flower bed next door, all a-twitching, watching the bird in the grass. The bird hops closer and closer to the siamese, then at the last moment up into the tree.

And then, there goes the siamese up into the tree after the bird.

And then the bird hops down onto the metal plant holder just daring that cat to try and get him now!

Holiday weekend is over with and Keith has gone back to work this morning. He'll start going in at 5 am instead of 6 as soon as the temps get into the 90's, which looks like it will be next week according to the local weather reports. Ugh, I am not looking forward to the heat.

Our weekend was very quiet and rather boring but I did get dinner fixed for me last night, with Keith cooking some steaks and corn on the cob. It was really nice not to have to cook even though I still had to clean up after him.
