Mimi In The Box

I had this box that a yarn order had come in sitting on the kitchen table. I hadn't quite emptied out all of the yarn but that did not stop Mimi from getting in the box and making herself quite comfortable.
And here is something I made with some of that yarn that came in the box. This is made with the craft cotton yarn from Herrchner's, a set of mandala placemats that were a lot of fun to make. These will be making an appearance in my Etsy shop as soon as I can figure out the price.

I also have some sets of dishcloth/washcloths that are quick and easy to whip up.

The first set is made with the same yarn as the placemats, the second with some Premiere Home cotton yarn from Herrchner's, a little rougher utility type cotton that is only $1.50 a skein and also crochets up much easier and with less frustration than the Sugar and Cream yarns, a yarn I will never buy again no matter how tempting the colors are, I just don't like working with it.

And some more coasters with the cotton/poly blend lighter weight yarn.

Thanksgiving Feast?

And I guess I really need to dust more often.

Keith got in sometime late last night, all I know is that I woke up about 3am to go to the bathroom and he was home and just getting ready for bed. He had just left me a note that he wouldn't be home long and to not wake him up or make too much noise in the morning. I did talk with him for a few minutes before going back to bed, he said that he was scheduled to go back out around noon.

He got up around 11 or so, still waiting for his call, and we decided to go see what fast food places were open and grab something to eat before he had to leave. So, our big feast was Arby's, a roast beef sandwich for me and a turkey club sandwich for him. So there was turkey involved and actually Arby's market sandwiches that come on regular bread really do look good, freshly sliced meat along with lettuce and tomato, they look exactly like a sandwich you would make at home.

And that was our Thanksgiving dinner, he just left on a long trip to Needles instead of Barstow, although they still pass through Barstow, and he doesn't mind the longer trip at all because it means more money paid to him. He may even get holiday pay on top of it, so we really don't mind missing Thanksgiving at all. We can always cook turkey when he gets back.

As I'm getting up from the table after we ate lunch, I noticed something like a string in the air by the cupboard and candle holder and did a bit of a double take to find that a very tiny spider was building a very tiny spiderweb from the corner of the cupboard to the candle holder. I felt kind of bad destroying his web and realized that I really should get out that duster more often.
Mimi found another box to lay in, I was using this box in my closet to hold stuff and got it out to hold some other stuff while I was organizing things, and empty box? Perfect Mimi spot.
That box is from Zappos, from whom earlier this year I ordered my annual crocs, and if you ever want to order shoes on the internet, that is the place to do so. Great service, good prices, and if you call them up their customer service people are incredibly cheerful and happy. They must pay pretty well or give them some kind of happy pills.

Mimi In The Box

It's been getting a little chilly at night these past few weeks, it is after all November already and yes, winter is coming. The nights here do get cold as winter progresses and while we are warm and toasty in our beds inside, Lucy and Genie are outside all night except on really bad nights when we put Lucy in the garage. The garage isn't much warmer than outside but at least it doesn't get damp and the wind doesn't blow.

We are going to buy them each an Igloo dog/cat house soon, but in the meantime Lucy really needs something to curl up in at night. Genie has her basket (plastic laundry basket) that has a double layer of blankets in it along with a blanket flap that can be folded over the top of the basket while she is inside. She is used to this sleeping arrangement and if it gets real cold and damp she has the tool shed to sleep in.

I was looking around the house for something to make a bed for Lucy until we get her Igloo which hopefully she will use, and found some boxes filled with papers that we really don't need to keep anymore up on the closet shelf. I got one down and emptied it out and put it on the floor in the living room for a moment and guess who saw that box and got right inside it?

Yep. Miss Must Sit In Or On Everything.

As I was searching for this picture to upload I found many other pictures that were titled Mimi In The Box. She does like her boxes. A BOX!!

So, after she finally got out of the box I put a folded towel in the bottom of it and then a blanket and then another blanket on top of the box with an opening for Lucy to jump into the box through and it seems to be working really well for now. Lucy likes the extra cushiness of the towel under her blanket and the fact that it's dark in there with the blanket on top. She has spent the last few nights in there along with the occasional daytime nap. Cozy.

Trying To Rain And A Sunset

And a box sitting cat again. It really doesn't look all that comfortable to be laying on plastic bags that are filled with spools of ribbon but Mimi manages to squish herself down in the ribbon box and looks perfectly content.
Yesterday evening I stepped out front and noticed an orange glow in the sky and my neighbors garage wall was kind of lit up and glowing. It was the sunset, something you would think I would notice more often, but the way our houses face in this neighborhood you really don't pay all that much attention to it. You have to go out into the street to really see the sunset and since we don't usually have much in the way of clouds in the sky it isn't all that exciting most of the time. Last nights was pretty, though, pretty enough to take a few pictures.

We have some of those solar lights in the front flower bed, lights I just had to buy at Walmart, lights that I didn't realize actually change colors which I really think is kind of tacky, but hey, they came from Walmart, where tacky rules!

They usually come on at dusk and are kind of mesmerizing to watch as the colors change.

It is trying to rain today, the forecast calls for mountain thunderstorms coming up from the Arizona desert and it's actually sprinkling a bit outside right now. Keith is scheduled on a daytime train from Barstow today and probably will have a little excitement with some desert rain and maybe even some lightning. We sure get excited about rain around here!

We have the new state mandate going into effect where you are not supposed to water your yard more than twice a week and if you waste water the water police will come and fine you $500.00 or something like that. We don't use that much water with just the two of us, but we are somewhat wasteful, Keith likes really really long showers and we are both guilty of turning on the sprinkler and then forgetting that it's on. One morning I came out and the side hose had been on all night long, fortunately at just a dribble watering the side yard trees, but still. Keith had turned it on and then gone to work, forgetting all about it.

I did read that homeowner's associations are not supposed to send nastygrams or fine people about brown yards anymore. We haven't gotten a 'water  your yard' letter in a while, probably because I've been watering every day up until now and while still not all that great looking, our yard has been a little greener. Not anymore though!

Our neighbor across the street took out his side yard and put rocks in it after getting one too many letters about his dead grass.

Other than the chance for some rain today, just another day here. Another good thing about the storms possibly coming through town is that it won't be quite so hot.
